Let’s celebrate felines. Neko no Hi, or Cat Day, is an informal celebration held every year on February 22 and has been observed for more than two decades. This tradition reflects the deep bond of affection between the Japanese people and their furry companions. Established in 1987 by the Japan Pet Food Association, Neko no Hi plays with the Japanese love of wordplay: the date 2/22 can be read as “ni ni ni,” echoing the familiar “nya” of a cat’s meow.
At Shonan Focus, Cat Day is an invitation to slow down and pay attention to what makes each companion unique. Whether curious, playful or quietly contemplative, every cat has its own personality and rhythm. Photographing animals requires patience, sensitivity and a calm presence, allowing natural moments to unfold without forcing a pose. The goal is not simply to take a picture, but to capture an expression, a gesture or a fleeting look that truly reflects your companion.
These portraits become more than images. They turn into lasting memories of shared moments, small daily rituals and the silent connection between humans and animals. From home sessions to outdoor settings, each photo shoot is adapted to your cat’s temperament, ensuring a relaxed and respectful experience.
On the occasion of Neko no Hi, Shonan Focus invites cat owners to celebrate their quadripede companions through thoughtful and natural photography. Because time passes quickly, and these moments deserve to be preserved, one photograph at a time.
